Return of the worm in the Big Apple!!!
As I said, to find oneself in New York is above all to realize that we are tiny. How can you not get the feeling of being crushed by the height of the buildings, the narrowness of the streets and consequently the permanent darkness of certain streets. In fact, the first two things I notice when re-examining my photos, is that the camera is used much more vertically than horizontally, but also that it is particularly difficult to express the impressions of crushing in photography... But how can you not be stunned in front of the Guggenheim museum and its white spirals, or that kind of pyramid formed by the various stages of the Trump Tower? Also getting the strange nauseous feeling Sharon Stone must have felt in the movie "Sliver" when staying in her tower with the large facades without windows, in front of Saint Patrick's Church. I tried, without really succeeding, to capture on my film things other than the images the tourists take and what you get on postcards.
How could one miss an indelible souvenir of the Twins Towers of the World Trade Centre which will remain forever associated with quite sad images, especially when seen from Brooklyn. And since it is unfortunately impossible any other way, I offer you a night vision of Manhattan from the top of one of the towers.
If I have one advice to give you, it would be to not go to New York in summer. The temperatures are unbearable and I don't even want to tell you about the smell. Even in winter it's not so great either. By -15°C, one can hardly stick his nose out. On the other hand, it is interesting to discover these vapor clouds which leave the grids and which point out so many films to us. And since it is winter, why not go for a little walk in Central Park, to discover the frozen basin. With a little chance, you will be able to ice skate there. And then, winter is also the time for end of the year decorations. Like here, on the facade of Great Central Terminal, the famous railway station, the one we discover in "The untouchables" of Brian De Palma, when the pram falls down the staircase.
By the way, did I tell you movie fan? And since we're in Grand Central, let us take the subway and from there you go anywhere you. There is so much to see. Whether you want to find the Neapolitan ambiances of the Little Italy or the exoticism of Chinatown; discover the surroundings of Manhattan, like Brooklyn, the Bronx, the Queen district. You will not regret leaving the traditional tourist route. And there are also beautiful buildings, like in the Bronx, this baroque looking church. There are not only deserted streets. Go see the African market.
Take at least two weeks and a good guide with you, you will have to walk and put your feet to the test to discover all there is, but that's so much worth it.
Enjoy your trip!
